Auto-AGP in FTMs

The reports describe “auto-autogynephilia” in female-to-male transsexuals: the sexual fantasy of not just being male, but being a forced feminized male. Also referred to as feminization, detransition, or misgendering fantasies, it is an interesting variant of autoandrophilia (AAP). 


As the cases reveal, there are distinct but closely related types of “auto-AGP”:


  1. Type I: A natal female who fantasies about being a natal male (penis and all) who is forcibly feminized 

  2. Type II: A natal female who fantasies about being an FTM (male appearance with female genitalia) who is forcibly feminized

  3. Type III: A natal female who transitions to male but fantasies about transforming into or reverting back to a female body


Case #1 (Max), Case #2 (Bruno), and Case #4 (James) exemplify Type I. Even in cases where they use their vaginas in sex, this is imagined as the anus of a “sissified” natal male.


Case #4 (James) also exemplifies Type II, where his Type II fantasies specifically involve forced detransition.


Case #7 (Julian) explicitly does not exemplify Type I, but exemplifies Type III. 


Case #6 (Matteo) is difficult to make sense of, as he frequently contradicts himself. He exemplifies Type III, as he fantasizes about becoming “a woman” who is a “submissive whore”, a “completely sexual, super sexy woman who is very actively submissive.” He might also exemplify Type II, as he fantasizes about being feminized but takes a sexual interest in his own vagina, describing it as “gorgeous”. Alternatively, he might exemplify Type I, as he describes fantasizing about being “a gay bottom”. 


All of the above cases describe bisexuality with a sexual preference for males. This includes Case #6 (Matteo), who claims to be “primarily attracted to women” but has a much more extensive sexual history with men: “To Matteo’s confusion, he discovered that even though he was primarily attracted to women and enjoyed having sex with them, he liked having sex with men “a little more”. With time, he came to see himself as bisexual and accept his attraction to both sexes.” Sometimes, androphilic FTMs play up a preference for women out of fear of seeming less masculine otherwise. This might be what is happening here.


I would categorize all of these cases as androphilic, not gynephilic. In my non-expert opinion, this seems to be closely related to the phenomenon of AAP, or is a subtype of AAP.


Case #3 (Chloé) and Case #5 (Rose) might not be cases of auto-AGP, but ROGD, or misdiagnosed Gender Dysphoria. It is certainly possible that these are cases of auto-AGP, which should occur in natal females regardless of transsexual status. Alternatively, these might be the standard masochistic fantasies that are found in non-transsexual women, with themes of feminization.

Commentary on "A Life History Approach to the Female Sexual Orientation Spectrum"

This blogpost was written prior to having read Severi Luoto's more recent papers, where he updates his position on the female sexual orientation spectrum. Rather than reading this blogpost, I recommend reading my Commentary on Luoto & Rantala's (2022) "Female Bisexuality" . "Navel Gays" is Wrong about Autoandrophilia

Years ago, I took an interest in the subject of autosexuality. Autosexuality is a poorly understood topic that is vital to understanding the causes of Gender Dysphoria in natal males, where it manifests as “autogynephilia”. When it comes to Autogynephilia, the “Big Three” books to read are Michael Bailey’s The Man Who Would Be Queen , Anne Lawrence’s Men Trapped in Men’s Bodies , and Phil Ily’s Autoheterosexual.  In the years since publishing Autoheterosexual , the author Phil Ily has cultivated a community of self-aware autogynephiles, including the full range of transvestites, transsexuals, and detransitioners.
